Residency Application

The Post Contemporary provides awards to approximately 95% of Residents. Rates are subsidized by grants and fellowships.

Please apply by priority deadlines for consideration.

Current awards:

Merit award

Open to all artists with demonstrated artistic ability
Award amounts range from $50/wk to full cost.

Financial award

Open to artists with financial need.
Award amounts range from $50/wk to full cost.

Upstate Artists award:

Open to artists in the Upstate NY region.
Award amounts range from $145/wk to full cost.

To apply for an award you must provide the short statement of proposed residency project and check the “apply for award” box on the application. Detailed instructions can be found on the form. Awards will be given based on the strength of the proposal and demonstrated artistic ability. If you would like to be considered for income-based aid please check “apply for financial aid” box and send a photocopy of your most recent tax return. Artists receiving financial aid will also be expected to donate between 5-10 hours of their time per week working for the Post.

Yearly deadlines for priority consideration and awards:

Nov 1 – Winter

For residency beginning between:
Jan 1 and March 30

Mar 15 – Spring

For residency beginning between:
May 1 and June 30

May 1 – Summer

For residency beginning between:
July 1 and September 30

August 15 – Fall

For residency beginning between:
September 1 and December 31

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Apply early for best consideration. However, applicants are encouraged to apply even if the priority deadlines are passed, in the event that the dates requested and/or funding may still be available. As a general rule summer residencies fill much faster than other seasons.
