Estimates vary, but some theorists believe that as much as 40% of our resources are consumed by buildings – homes, businesses and farms.  Buwalda’s construction for the CAC woods is a single family’s home AC system – minus the home.  This perverse emblem for excess and the ‘American Dream’ is more than just hot air, er, cool air.  It reminds us that waste is an omnipresent and inescapable aspect of modern life.  We deserve an art that haunts us all the way from the SUV to the ATM to I-87.
